She scored two goals in just eight games helping to guide the magicJack to a third-place finish in the league that season. In late 2011, the magicJack folded and in early 2012, the same happened to WPS. Rapinoe returned to the United States in 2011 after playing for Sydney Football Club FC, the Australian W-League. After that, Rapinoe played for the Seattle Washington Sounders Women - currently Sound FC. For the 2013 season she played soccer in France. She later joined the National Women's Soccer League NWSL (formerly the WPS) created in response to the WPS's dissolution. Rapinoe became one of the club's top scorers before becoming coach of the club. Her debut appearance at the FIFA Women's World Cup took place in the year 2011. Her participation contributed to with the U.S. Women's World Cup win successive championships between 2015 and the year 2019. In 2018 she became cocaptain of the national team. Rapinoe was awarded two bronze medals at her part in the United States' 4-3 win over Australia in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Japan has been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 viral pandemic.
